I have just returned to SA (the beautiful Hout Bay in the Cape) after living in the UK for 16 years. I was fully aware of the difficulties of a mature, single woman returning to a country that has no social services to speak of, no National Health Service, little job opportunity for me, but determined to live and work here. Why, because there is MORE opportunity for an entrepreneurial, mature, single woman HERE than there is in the UK. Yes, there is! You just have to have the belief in yourself and find a business(es) to work at and make enough money to enjoy the wonderful lifestyle this country has to offer - not to mention the wonderful, smiley people! So I have started my own business and I ask other like-minded people to please read my blog (doing it now!) to discover what this is and how you can get involved too.

Hi Just arrived back form the US. Visiting my daughter. I have two others who are living in the UK. Gets expensive spending time with them, but the bonus is I get to travel.
Want to share a moment where I realised the roles of mother daughter turned around.
While shopping in Macey's with what seemed to be half of the NY population I devised a plan so that I would not get lost. I told my daughter Bronwyn that if she looses me I will be standing at the last place she saw me and please come looking for me!
Have a great weekend

Thanks for this book title Jan, I will go and try and find it. The one that has blown my mind with a similar theme is called Encore- Finding work that matters in the second half of life by Marc Freedman.

Happy to be in this group. I have just read a really challenging book that I can recommend - Marianne Wiliamson's 'The Age of Miracles - Embracing the New Midlife'. We are the baby boomers and carry with us the pontential to contribute in a BIG way to global transformation!! What a purpose to have in mid-life!........ Who is up to the challenge- like me?!..............................

Many of us are surprised to find ourselves n this space in our fifties. Things may not be as we imagined but today there is so much to life that we cannot let a single day go by without living it. Have a great day.

The reason I started this group was not as a dating site but rather a place where single people can connect and discuss the challenges and opportunities that being 50 and single brings. The Baby Boomers are the most divorced generation in the history of mankind. This brings the challenge of many single people in society. This opens up new marketing opportunities as well.

I think the greatest challenge as a single person is to become whole. Discover who you are, learn new skills and make many good friends. You will have time to work, connect, travel and make a difference in your community.
Certainly many will fall in love and get married but the aim is more to manage the single space.
